Don't Get Me Started - Debating Group

MEETS AT KINGS HILL GOLF CLUB ON THE 1ST MONDAY OF THE MONTH AT 1.45PM (N.B. Social membership of Golf club is free, gives 5% off food and drink.)

Ken Faulkner of Paignton U3A wrote “…It is obvious from ‘Third Age Matters’ letter pages that what every U3A needs is a GRIPES Group”? Or does it? Well we enjoy Debating every month, anyway!”

Every meeting we’ll have lively informal discussions on everything members want to deal with, both Important and (equally importantly!) Trivial. Those of us who wish to, can take a turn each month to research a little, or you may spontaneously kick off a topic (or three). We’ll aim to be better informed – and to jolly well have our (coffee and) cake and eat it, yum. We cannot perhaps change the world - But we intend to feel better about how we deal with it, and be smiling when we leave!

Many people find it hard to share their frustrations. Yet ‘Quiet’ people can become enthusiastic orators in the causes dear to their heart. ‘Noisy’ people, really can learn to listen! All can share a bond, and recognise the value of opinions they had not adequately considered or understood.

Religion, politics and controversy cannot be ruled out as they significantly affect everything we think, do and say. But neither should the vital question, ‘Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight)?’ We intend (as impartially as we can) to laugh, and live better as we learn!
