Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month @ 10.30 - 12.30 in the Observation Room at the Spitfire Pub in KIngs Hill
Contract whist is a game for 4 people who play as individuals. It follows the principal of all whist games where tricks are won by either the highest card of the suit or a trump. All cards are dealt so each has 13 and then players declare how many tricks they will win - " the contract ". However the final person to declare has to make the total above or below 13 so somebody always has to lose. !! This is where the game becomes competitive. It is however intended to be fun and not taken too seriously. A full explanation of the rules of our version will be given.
A friendly and enthusiastic group for members who enjoy wine and would like to learn more about wine and wine making.
At each meeting a member will give a talk on a topic of their choice, supported by tastings of wines as they feel appropriate. The evening will include general discussion about the chosen wine-related subject.
Topics could include grape varieties, wine regions, wine making techniques, wine and food pairing, selecting and buying wines, the list is endless!
The group will initially meet bi-monthly in members’ homes on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm.
The croquet group will meet every Tuesday until the end of September from 1.30pm -3.30pm.
Beginners and learners are welcome.
Meetings are at:
K Sports Cobdown
There will be a £5.00 charge for each session to include refreshments.
The aim of the group is to work creatively in good company, in a variety of media, while developing our skill and knowledge.
It is fun to paint, draw or otherwise create images with friends who are happy to advise on any problems and share their knowledge.
Most weeks we might just do our own thing but we will try out new media in our monthly sessions.
We enjoy the peace and concentration of our first hour, followed by a refreshment break, which gives an opportunity to look at each other’s work and have a chat.
We warmly welcome new members - do come and give it a go!
The group meets on the 1st Monday of the month in the morning.
Monthly meetings are usually based on themes chosen by the members, and the group concentrates on taking pictures on those themes. The convenor then displays them for critique and discussion at the meetings. Cloud - based sharing is used along with other means of viewing our work.
Many a great photo has been taken using an inexpensive camera or made to look amazing using free software – it’s not what you have but what you do with it that counts!
Both experts and beginners can share and learn how to compose and take good pictures; and to edit, enhance, manipulate and reprocess them on a computer. Photography trips to local places of interest are arranged from time to time.
We also view various elements of photography and useful tips, which can be found on Photography DVDs or YouTube.
